Caaguazú occupies the geographic centre of eastern Paraguay. Route 2 — the country's main artery between Asunción and Ciudad del Este — runs through it. The capital, Coronel Oviedo, is the country's most important inland highway-junction city and a logistics hub. East of Coronel Oviedo, the department becomes farmland — soya, mate, cattle, and a substantial brasiguayo (Brazilian-Paraguayan) farming community whose first language is Portuguese.

01 / overview
What Caaguazú is
Caaguazú is rural Paraguay's middle. Coronel Oviedo (CO) has supermarkets, a regional hospital, and the only sizeable shopping mall between Asunción and CDE. Outside CO and Caaguazú town, the department is agriculture — and increasingly brasiguayo agriculture. The eastern districts (Yhú, José Domingo Ocampos, Mariscal López) are 60%+ Portuguese-speaking. A specific sub-economy of farms, schools, churches, and supermarkets serves them.
